If you’ve been dreaming of a wedding venue that combines rustic charm with modern touches, then you’re going to love what we’ve done with the Old Barn at De Uijlenes. What started as a simple flooring project turned into one of our most exciting venue upgrades to date — and we’re so excited to finally show it off!
A little history…
The Old Barn is one of our most beloved venues here at De Uijlenes, nestled on our working farm just outside Gansbaai. With its raw timber beams, vintage charm, and endless character, it’s hosted hundreds of unforgettable celebrations over the years.
But being an old farm stoor in its past life, the foundation wasn’t quite designed for the kind of foot traffic that comes with a good wedding party! A high water table beneath the building and years of moisture meant the floor needed some serious love.
So, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work — but like all good reno stories, one thing led to another…
From flooring fix to full-on makeover
Once we pulled up the old floors, we knew we couldn’t stop there. We decided it was time to give the Old Barn a full refresh — while still honouring the rustic farm style that makes it so special. Here’s what we’ve done:
New waterproofed floor installation — no more moisture worries, and a smooth, modern finish that feels amazing underfoot and for langarm!
Brand-new entrance doors — offering a warm welcome and better flow for guests
Lowered stage area — creating a more open, versatile space that works for dining, dancing, or indoor ceremonies
Stunning arched feature window — not only a beautiful focal point, but also a functional Plan B ceremony space when the forest brings the rain
Forest scene wall mural — adding depth, whimsy, and a magical natural vibe to the space so it ties in with the Forest
Lighting built into the floor — soft, ambient glow for those dreamy evening moments
Fresh coat of paint + new garden beds — lifting the exterior and adding a lush, welcoming entrance
The space still feels like De Uijlenes — but with a modern, more polished edge. It’s the perfect blend of rustic and refined, and we know our couples (and their guests!) are going to fall in love with it all over again.
