2020 Wedding Trends

Are you looking at getting hitched next year?  Well with 2020 around the corner, here are the wedding trends that are sure to stay strong for another year…

Invitations

Floral Invitations:

The florals are here to stay, not that we mind.  We are loving the colour and texture variations with this stationary choice and seeing it on menu’s, seating charts, table numbers and even wedding websites.

Wedding ring

Rose Gold Jewelry:

Your Nana will be proud seeing you sport a rose gold wedding or engagement ring like the one above from Dear Rae, this vintage gold is here to stay.

Wedding dress

Classic, Yet Still Sexy Wedding Gowns:

The trend that Megan Markel rocked on her wedding day of a classic wedding dress is still a winner for 2020.  To add a little sexiness a classic gown, just show a little skin.  Remember Ouma is at the wedding too, so the emphases is on little.  A slightly plunging neckline, an open back, or even a crop are all ways to look stunning and classically sexy on your wedding day.

Bride

Dramatic Veils:

We are seeing some very pretty and detailed veils walking down the aisle here at De Uijlenes lately.  Some with crochet, some with a quote, some with geometric patterns  and some boho inspired ones with flowers and lace detail.  Either way we will be seeing more of these in 2020.  And FYI, you don’t need to get married in a church to rock a veil, they look pretty awesome in a forest too.

Outdoor seating with couches and chairs

Non-traditional Seating:

Mismatched chairs, benches, lounges, grandma’s couch and cushions.  This is the latest of ideas not just for the ceremony, but also for predrinks or even in the reception venue.  You can have some lounge pockets dotted between your tables.  Plan on seeing more non traditional matchy matchy seating next year.

Confetti

Sustainable Weddings:

One of the biggest trends we saw this year is eco-friendly and sustainable weddings.  More than ever couples are aware of the impact us humans are making on the environment.  We will be seeing more plant based menus, more biodegradable confetti, sustainably farmed local flowers and greenery, reusing of vintage glassware, furniture and even Mum’s wedding dress and Ouma’s wedding ring.

Guest table decor

Unique Crockery:

Plates, bowels, glassware and cutlery.  We will be seeing wedding table settings with blues, blacks, greys, pinks, golds mixed in the with the traditional white place settings.  Because people are going plain with the flowers and greenery they are looking at other ways to incorporate colour on the tables.  Look out for more of this next year.

Table decor with roses and candles

Bohemian Touches – mixed metals, mixed textures:

Bohemian is a wedding trend that just won’t go away, however next year we will be seeing more industrial elements mixed in with the bohemian textures.  Think rustic woods, warm metals and darker metals mixed in with cane lighting, furniture and soft flowers and greenery. Winner, winner.

Table flowers with hanging ceiling flowers

Floral Installations:

Floral intallations are all the rage right now.  Whether you have a big or small budget, everyone seems to be hanging flowers, greenery, ferns, leaves, succulents, pretty much any kind of plant material from the rafters, arches, doorways, tree trunks and fire places.  Be prepared to see a lot more of these installations in the coming year.

Guys & cigars

Man Cave:

A man cave is now a necessity for the guys to get ready in and have some guy time before the ceremony.  Why should the girls have all the fun in the decked out bridal suite while the guys get ready in a small cramped room somewhere.  At our Old Barn venue we have a cigar lounge where the Groom & Groomsmen can chill before the wedding ceremony and celebrations.   We have plans to add more guy goodness with a barber chair and a barber that will come in and treat the men to a hot towel shave and style their hair.

Ground fog wedding dance

More Wow Factor:

We are seeing an increasing trend in couples wanting to WOW their guests with something different.  Dancing on a cloud, fireworks, interactive food and drinks, fire dancers, bands and venue’s that have that wow factor.  I am interested to see what 2020 will bring in this category.
